Rapid launching action increases your battle speed and accuracy. Other features include a pullback mechanism and auto-advancing barrel. The Maverick is a part of the N-Strike team, so you can snap it onto the Unity Power System (sold separately) and ratchet the NERF action up another notch. This incredibly cool Maverick blaster has a six-dart barrel with flip-open action for easy loading that puts you right back in the game. Blaster comes with six darts and instructions.
Editorial Review Like the gun toted by the cowboy hero with whom it shares its name, the Maverick is a six shooter. Unlike the gun that other Maverick had, however, this weapon shoots only soft suction darts that can fly across a room and adhere to a window or other glass surface. The Maverick features a rotating barrel, which makes it easier to keep the firepower flying in the midst of heated battle and a futuristic look to better engender sci-fi fantasy play if you so choose. For a little extra power boost, the gun also has a pump mechanism. In our informal test, the darts flew surprisingly far and impressively straight. --Charlie Williams

Very Fun for indoor use November 18, 2008 I bought this gun mainly for it's looks and functionality when used indoors. It can shoot about 15 - 20 ft out of the box and can get about 30 - 35 ft if you want to modify it. It is a very durable toy, but if it does break, it will be the hammer pin that is used to prime the gun. The pin is held by plastic tabs that can wear down, but only from very heavy, heavy use. This gun has a high rate of fire but can misfire occasionally depending on the darts. The included darts are okay, but a bit too soft and thin. If you are able to find thicker darts, I would recommend it. The barrels are tapered so I would recommend not storing the darts in the barrel for a long period of time. And the color is the new yellow and black scheme, not the blue and silver as depicted.
Modding community favorite November 16, 2008 What can be said about what is likely the single most popular Nerf gun.. I'm sorry 'blaster' on the market?
Well, I'm 24 and somewhat obsessed with Nerf guns, and the Maverick easily makes it in to my top 3 favorite guns, and is good competition for #1. It's got fair accuracy, good range (one of the best ranged for a Nerf handgun I've seen), and with the fact that it's a revolver, you can fire six shots before you have to reload.
But, you already know all of that, I'm sure. The Maverick is also lends itself well to modding. The flow restrictors are easy to remove, which increases it's range and power. A quick mod allows the barrel to drop further out for quicker loading. And there are some impressive mods for it out there.
On the subject of modding, I did find that painting it can mess with the rotation action a little. I'll be working on my second here pretty soon and see if I can't avoid that.
Do note of course that Nerf guns are built how they are for safety reasons, and modding them, especially in removing some of these safety features can be dangerous (according to Hasbro), although modding can make the gun more likely to break.
Good ol Nerf fun! November 2, 2008 Hey, I may be a bit older than the recommended 8 - 12 year old recommended age range but I can still appreciate a cool toy! The Nerf Maverick gun is a well-built, little dart gun. Brightly colored and harmless looking, it cranks out soft, foam suction darts with surprising speed and accuracy. My cats have grown wary whenever they hear the gun being cocked back. Needless to say, if it's recommended for an adult, I'd certainly recommend it for child. At $10 you'll get a lot more play out of the N-Strike Maverick than you would out of a video game. And your kid will have to run around a bit and get some exercise to get the most out of this toy!
Best Nerf gun that I own October 22, 2008 I have a large arsenal of Nerf weapons, and this is definitely the best of the bunch. It's also the best value. Easy to reload, easy to fire, not too bulky. The one downside is that it does occasionally jam, especially when the trigger is not pulled smoothly.
NOT BLUE!!!! October 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Good toy, works fine. No complaints about that, but the gun is NOT BLUE as depicted in the photo. I came shopping on amazon looking for a 'big blue gun' as my 3 year old requested for his 4th birthday and I knew his cousin had this one . . . in BLUE, so I figured this was probably "the one" he was imagining in his head (to a 3 year old, this is huge enough). I had seen on other sites that it was depicted in orange and assumed (incorrectly i now see) that the one amazon had must be a blue one - thinking maybe they still had stock of the blue one where other stores had sold out and switched to orange? Guess not - it's just an old pic. The gun arrived just a couple days before my son's birthday and I actually didn't open the amazon box till the night before to wrap his gifts (a taped amazon box is an easy hiding place for b-day gifts) so I was stuck wrapping this one or not have a 'blue gun' to give him. Son was happy with gun (he said 'WOW, a gun!'), but I didn't get that 'COOOOOL, DAD!!!! A BIG! BLUE! GUN!!!!!!' with the excitement of recognizing it was 'the one' he was wanting that I was going for. Bummer. Thought everyone should know in case color was a factor in getting this gun!
