The engine and tender are painted in a dark, matte finish to complete the image.Following the locomotive and tender are two lighted coach cars. Great Classic Train January 6, 2009
Great train! The kids loved it and it feels very durable. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars on the durability is because I wish the passenger cars were metal like the old super-O Lionel trains used to be. I highly recommend this!
Finally, a Christmas train that you can operate year-round December 19, 2008
In what is perhaps Lionel's best marketing move in years, they've produced an O-27 compatible version of the 'Polar Express' train set for people of all ages. Return to a time when consumer products were built to last, as you heft the brick of a locomotive out of it's styrofoam storage box and place it on the track for the first time. Lionel also removed one of the most frustrating points of a ready-to-run train set by including their brand of Fastrack. Now you can assemble the track on a carpeted floor without worry of fouling the electric motor and running gear.
I recommend this to everybody who intends on putting a train around their tree for the holidays. Don't let the price deter you, when cared for properly... this train will outlast any video game or doll you could ever buy for the kids.

This is an absolutely excellent product and was delivered from the U.S. extremely quickly. I would highly recommend both the toy and the seller.

My first train set. I would agree with the other reviews I've seen, except I'm not sure it is really "heirloom" quality. It is "made in China" quality. I barely touched the decorative steam whistle on the top of the engine, and it nearly broke off. The headlight, and the smoke features are pretty cool. I can't seem to find the "switch" to turn off the smoke though. Other reviewers warned that the smoke unit would burn out if not turned off or run with smoke fluid.

I ordered this train set for my 2 and 4 year old grandsons. Actually, I think my son ( their father)wanted it more than the boys did. The train is made very well and the cars are big and strong enough for the boys to handle without worrying about breaking them. Of course, it still requires an adult to supervise. The controller for the engine is big and easy for little hands to operate. The track is excellent and fits together nicely. It does not fall apart. It is easy to place the train's wheels on the track. This is an expensive train, but is is well worth it and will be around for years of enjoyment.
