Amazon.com Review With its pouty, cartoonish eyes, floppy ears and perky little tail, the The Rescue Pets Swim to Me Puppy is practically irresistible. But it's more than a pretty face: this battery-operated puppy not only walks by itself, but it also starts to swim when you put it in water. This fun toy provides plenty of opportunity for imaginative fun for kids aged 3 and up.

Put on some swimming goggles and he's ready to swim in the water. View larger. | | What We Think Fun Factor:
Durability: (what this means)
The Good: Battery-operated puppy is easy and fun for children to use
The Bad: Makes very loud mechanical noise; requires some positioning to float properly in the water
In a Nutshell: Battery-operated puppy can walk and swim on its own, providing opportunity for fun, imaginative play | At a Glance Ages: 3 and up Requires: Three AAA batteries, small Phillips screwdriver | | | A Steady Walker The Swim To Me Puppy has a hard, hollow plastic body and head, with floppy rubber ears. While its hard shape is not terribly cuddly, it's perfect for the water. It requires 3 AAA batteries, and you'll need a smaller-sized Phillips screwdriver to install them. Once the batteries were in, we found it easy enough to make the puppy walk. Simply press the heart-shaped button until its legs start to move, then set it on the ground. The puppy wobbles along at a slow, walking over flat smooth surfaces as well as softer surfaces, such as a rug or sofa, although some bumps can sometimes make it lose its balance. It sure looked cute toddling along, but this puppy makes a very loud mechanical noise while it's moving -- a sound that we soon found rather grating while, of course, our test child remained delightedly oblivious to it. A Natural in the Water The puppy has two small sensors on his chest. To get it to "swim," immerse the sensors in water, and its legs will start to move. Although the toy's instructions say that the dog will start to "doggy paddle," it simply just makes the same walking movements it does when "on land." But that doesn't detract from the fun -- the puppy will float in the water, and its leg movements propel it through the water at a steady, if somewhat slow, pace. We found that certain adjustments helped keep the puppy floating upright: first make sure that the water is deep enough so that it's actually floating, rather than simply walking on the bottom of the bathtub. For best results, submerge the puppy's body until bubbles stop forming, to fill him with water and help it balance better. Otherwise it will tip too far forward. And it's best to position it with its face halfway submerged, so it does not tip back too far. If you attend to these details, the puppy will "swim" as far as you'll let it. Of course, if your child is playing in a bathtub, the puppy won't get very far. And while the toy's instructions indicate that the puppy is not recommended for use outside, we think its swimming action would be a lot more fun in a body of water larger than your standard tub. Be sure that children have constant adult supervision when playing in or near any water, indoors or out. The toy needs a little bit of care to make sure it continues to run properly, including making sure it's dry when playtime is finished. After our play session, the battery compartment had a bit of moisture inside, so make sure to dry your toy inside and out to prevent battery corrosion. What's in the Box: Swim to Me Puppy, 1 pair of swimming goggles for the puppy, 1 small towel for the puppy

rescue pets January 6, 2009 My five year old granddaughter asked Santa Claus for this toy but didn't receive it until our family Christmas on Jan 2nd. She was so excited and had to have it open so she could play with it right away.
Big disappointment!! January 3, 2009 This toy barely worked for 10 minutes. This was the "Santa" gift for my 3 year old son. This is one of the only toys he wanted. It was very difficult to find. I had to go to several Target stores. I finally got the last one at a Target two towns away. It was a big disappointment and waste of money and time. It kept going in circles on dry land. In the water, the head kept sinking and would not shut off. My son put it out of the tub and gave the dog "time out" because he was not behaving (not working properly). Do not waste your time or money. I returned the "Santa" gift, yesterday.
Daughter loves her dog! January 2, 2009 I bought this for my nearly 4 year old for Christmas and it has been a huge hit! Our dog has been in water several times and works without any problems.
In and out of the water my daughter loves playing with this toy.
Nice for 1 or 2 times then breaks doesnt turn off in our case December 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This was the only thing on my daughters christmas list, she opened it and played with it for a few hours, its cute kinda loud with a raa raa raa raa noise everytime it moves its legs. She had to put it in the water Christmas night when she bathed and he pretty much sank head first, so I did what it said let it fill with water to get bouincy, he still sank but now it was on its side..she played with him, head under water and going raa raa raa raa..LOL when we took him out he would not turn off. We pushed the off button on its collar..nothing still putting along...so we took the batterys out and figured we would wait for him to dry. Next day we put batterys back in he starts to raa raa raa raa again..he would not turn off. So took him back to the store (Walmart29.99 31.00 after tax) they only carried it for Christmas...no more in stock or comming in. Hunt this thing down online at Target, as there stores do not have it in stock and pay an extra 10(29.99 +6.98+)2.58 tax to have it shipped. Now I would not have even replaced this if my daughter was not freaking out(she's 5) that she wanted her puppy back But I will say I wont allow this one into the water. I dont recommend it...its seems not very well made. If you are forced to get it, dont put it in the water. Definatly not worth 29.99 or the much higher price people are trying to sell it for online...DONT WAIST YOUR MONEY
Total Dud December 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We got this toy for our daughter for Christmas. What a total dud! She took it into the bathtub and the toy is so top-heavy that it "swims" practically tipped over with it's head down in the water. It looks more like it's drowning than swimming. What a joke! Not at all like the commercial on t.v.. Don't waste your money.
