Looks Great, But Not a Winner November 16, 2008 I have a builder son, one who has oodles of legos and scads of K'Nex parts spread all over the house. He also loves castles, so I thought this would be an exciting blend of his two great interests. And it could have been, I think, but it needs some additions.
The problem with it was that it takes forever to make enough bricks to actually build with, as there are only a couple of forms in it. I don't have it handy at the moment to tell you know many, but I recall it took forever for it to make a mere few bricks. To create the actual castle on the cover of the product would take days just to make the bricks, let alone to put it together. If you could form 20-30 bricks at a time, this would be a fantastic toy but must kids won't work at it long enough to continue to have enough bricks to actually build the full castle.
The mess factor was not nearly as bad as I anticipated, but then again after about 2 hours and only a very small pile of bricks it was put away and never brought back out. For this particular child, who has the attention span of most adults, that was a surprise and so I rated this toy very low. It has potential, but in the current form I would not buy it again.
A Long Term Project May 16, 2008 My [...] son worked on this project for several months. It is a very long and time consuming project as you can only make about a dozen bricks at a time. Then the bricks must sit at least over night. When you start building, you can only build 3-4 layers in a day and then the glue/bricks must set overnight. We encouraged our son to keep at it, a little every day and the completed project is well worth all the reminders and time. This is a very educational project for anyone interested in castles and building them from scratch.
