You call that talking? January 2, 2009 First, the directions were unclear and arranged poorly. I never would've gotten it to work if I hadn't found the review that mentions putting the arm mechanism to the front. Second, screws were hard to put in. Third, it talks? What it does is make a series of beeps and electronic sounds when you push talk. Oh, and it can't walk and talk at the same time. Also, don't think you'll be able to get it to do anything else. It can't pick anything up or respond to anything other than the push of the walk button or the push of the talk button. Fourth, why a tethered remote? I knew it had a tethered remote and thought I wouldn't mind but -- the cord is like 2 feet long. It's really not a remote at all. Finally, despite all this, I still got a kick out of putting it together and seeing it work. Also, there are a couple of notes in the directions about why it works the way it does.
Build & run a robot January 18, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this toy for my 7 yr-old son for Christmas. He & his Dad had a great time putting it together, which took a little over an hour. It wouldn't work properly the first time, then they realized they put the arms on backwards. When they corrected the arms, it worked perfectly. My son played with it for hours. He's learned that if he makes the robot "dance", barely moving him back & forth quickly, the robot's eyes flash. I highly recommend it. It's worth the price.
Fun to Build, now what. January 11, 2007 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
This item was fun for my daughter to build with her grandpa, but after it was built the fun was over. It doesn't do much except sit on the shelf and take up space. I told her to take it apart again and redo it. That might be fun once, but after that it will probably go to the Thrift Shop.
Build Your Own Robot Kit - Lots of Fun! January 11, 2007 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
My son and I thoroughly enjoyed assembling and learning about how robots work. This kit may be frustrating for one adult or child to assemble. The screws require more 'adult strength' (he would start them and I would finish) and some of the instructions might need at least 3 hands to hold and assemble. But hey, that is why it was so enjoyable - we did it together! It is fun now to watch him play with it and tell everyone 'my Dad and I built this'!
Fun to build - could work better January 6, 2007 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
The directions were generally clear (until the end) and my 8 year old had fun putting it together with a little guidance and help tightening the screws (they were a bit hard). At first, it wouldn't walk, and we discovered that the arms were a problem. The picture showed the shoulder joints going back, but they really needed to face the front. Once we fixed it, the robot would walk fine, but the sound portion didn't work well. It will come on sporadically, not consistently.
The best part was the building - it's a little boring to operate.
